Groom's Cakes

Many couples are designing groom's cakes baked and iced to reflect the groom's hobbies or interests. Original and engaging, grooms cakes have resembled the groom's antique car or cowboy boots, while others in traditional cake shapes have sported hunting scenes or his favorite hole on the golf course. Pictured here are some of the recent creations by Cakes and Culinary.

Buick Skylark Cake

Lindsay Posted a Wedding Wire review for us about this fabulous cake!
"Amber and her team did an amazing job on our wedding and groom's cake. Both of our cakes were absolutely beautiful and delicious! They went above and beyond to create a unique groom's cake shaped like my husbands old 1972 buick skylark. It looks incredible and he was very pleased with it! Such a wonderful team of people to work with and would highly recommend to anyone in the future for any type of cake!"

In the era of outrageous wedding cakes, traditional weddings are still happening all across the country. As our economy gets back to normal, the wedding industry continues to power on through thick and thin. Brides to be will always want a wedding cake. This iconic confection has been a mainstay of celebrations for centuries. Lately, media outlets and TV shows celebrate the art-carved, architecturally incredible designs that may or may not have any flavor. At Cakes and Culinary Creations, our specialty is flavor. We celebrate traditional, wholesome ingredients and operate as one of Houston's only chef owned bakeries.

Although we can step up to the "cake stand" and carve a genius wedding or grooms cake for you, 90% of our requests are for delicious, traditional wedding cake. Don't be fooled by the high design and flair you see in wedding bakeries all over town. At the end of the dance, it all comes down to taste. Give your guests what their mouths deserve. Quality.

The REAL Butter Cream Debate

There are plenty of bakeries to choose from when you are planning your wedding.  Wedding Cake is one of the most sought after items in the planning process.  With tasting appointments, designer choices and more, it's almost like picking out your wedding dress.  Each bakery has something different to offer.

Typically, tasting cake is just "taste" when you are planning a birthday party or casual event.  It might mean that your palette isn't as refined when it comes to understanding the different flavors of icing.   Butter cream is one of the most popular base flavors for a wedding cake.  That being said, most bakeries in town are cranking out the wedding cakes so fast, they compromise on flavor.  Since butter, eggs, flour and sugar are commodities, the price tends to rise an fall like a gallon of gasoline.

Using REAL butter is one of the main differences in a Cakes & Culinary Creations Wedding Cake and the "other guys".  Most bakeries will use a variety of substitutes, one being Crisco.  We like to call this Crisco-Cream.

Ever get the feeling, deep down in your soul, that the wedding cake you just tasted wasn't made with REAL Butter?  Is your brain telling you it's a good cake because the design is so perfect?  Well, here are a few tips that will let your brain know that your taste buds just got tricked!
  1. If you can feel a plastic / greasy-spoon taste left over on the roof of your mouth.
  2. If the icing doesn't taste like melted ice cream, it was probably made with imitation butter.
  3. If the icing is crispy to the touch and has a little 'crunch', it's probably a Crisco-cream cake!
Happy tasting.  We want you to make the best choice for flavor and design.  Fresh, natural and beautiful, Cake Affairs and Culinary Creations is sure to satisfy all your taste buds!
